Sigur Rós - Valtari 

Valtari, Sigur Rós’ first album in four years, is a collection of moodily gorgeous, slow-paced sound-washes. With the notable and remarkable exception of “Varúð,” which builds to a crashing climax in the spirit of the band’s recent classic “Festival,” little here deviates from the absorbing minor-key gloom of albums like 2002’s ( ). It’s hard to dismiss Valtari (out May 29) as a retreat to Sigur Rós’ past, in part because nothing Jónsi touches really sounds like anyone else; like ( ) or Ágætis Byrjun, Valtari could come from Iceland circa 2000 or the prettiest spot on Mars circa 2080.

Bjork - Cosmogony (El Guincho Remix)

El Guincho shows us what happens with a softer touch:  The Spanish artist has remixed “Cosmogony” as the third installment of Bjork’s ongoing eight-part remix series.  Fairly demure for a guy known for producing tropicália romps, El Guincho’s take makes a perfect soundtrack for those cool spring evenings.

Download Debut Mixtape from TV Girls - The Wild, The Innocent, The TV Shuffle

After the success of our first two short EPs, we wanted to make something completely different. Something that was sprawling and ambitious and conceptual. So that’s what we did.

This record is our farewell love letter to sampling. As an unsigned band, we are in a unique position to take advantage of this legally nebulous practice, and we wanted to push that particular aspect of our songwriting to its logical extreme before changing courses. There are around 85 sampled elements in the mixtape, not including individual drum hits (but including full drum breaks). It’s a tribute to the music, TV, and Internet ephemera that has captured our hearts and minds as we composed it in our various bedrooms over the past year or so.

Writing and recording it was good clean American fun, and we hope the experience of listening to it is similar. Thanks.
